Post 3: How We Met – Our Throuple Story

Last week's questions:

1. Sushi or no?

  • This one’s easy—Daniel and Caleb are full-on sushi addicts. Like, if they could eat it every day, they absolutely would. Will, on the other hand? Hard pass. Not because he’s never tried it, but because one bad sushi experience ended that chapter real quick. Let’s just say food poisoning will do that to a person. So now, anytime sushi is on the menu, it’s a two-against-one situation, and Will is happily munching on literally anything else.

2. What type of shows do you watch?

  • Our taste in TV is all over the place, and honestly, we love it that way. From reality chaos like 'Big Brother' and 'The Amazing Race' to home renovation drama with 'Windy City Rehab', we’re always tuning in to something. Oh, and let’s not forget 'Press Your Luck'—because nothing beats yelling “NO WHAMMIES!” at the screen like our lives depend on it. We do squeeze in a few minutes of news each day just to stay informed, but we’ve learned not to overload ourselves. Balance, right?

3. Plant daddies or plant killers?

  • PLANT DADDIES, no question! We might live in the city without a ton of space, but we’ve managed to turn every corner of our yard into a mini oasis. Out front, we have a garden that pumps out over 40 pumpkins a year (which we give away for free to the neighborhood kids at Halloween), along with a ridiculous amount of veggies and fruit. We mixed in a desert landscape and fruit trees to keep things balanced, but the real tropical magic happens out back by the pool. That’s where we tucked in our little slice of Hawaii—pineapples, ginger, birds of paradise, and more plumerias than we probably need (but who’s counting?).

And of course, the inside is just as green. No way would we leave the house bare when we could fill it with plants, including our prized coconut palm. If we had space for a greenhouse the size of our home, you 'know' we’d make it happen! 🌱🌴

How We Met – Our Throuple Story

From three different states to one epic relationship, our journey to becoming a throuple was anything but conventional. But that’s what makes it so special. Here’s how Daniel, Caleb, and Will went from separate lives to building a future together.

Where We Came From:

Daniel made the move to San Diego from Reno, NV. Caleb, originally from Lubbock, TX, was stationed in San Diego after joining the Navy. Will grew up in Minnesota but moved to San Diego after a life-changing event—getting hit by a train. (Yes, you read that right, and yes, we’ll dive into that wild story in a future blog post. Stay tuned!)

How Will & Caleb Met:

Caleb was in the Navy when he first met Will through mutual friends. Before a night out, those friends decided to play matchmaker, telling them, “Oh, I have a cute friend for you!” They both agreed to meet and when Caleb arrived that night, Will conveniently walked through the living room fresh out of the shower, wearing nothing but a towel. Talk about an entrance!

Though they barely spoke at the club that night, they ended up going home together—and from there, things just clicked. Weeks of "hanging out" led to a dinner with friends who finally asked, “So what is this?!” We looked at each other and said, “I guess we’re boyfriends?” Fast forward 19 years, and the love is still going strong.

How We Met Daniel:

Will had always seen Daniel at the club while DJing and eventually messaged him, saying, “If you ever want to get in for free, hit me up!" They started chatting occasionally, and before long, Daniel was a regular on Will’s DJ guest list. Later on, Daniel and Caleb met through Will, and as they spent more time together, their bond grew naturally.

The Evolution of Our Relationship:

Will & Caleb had been together for years before meeting Daniel. We never really considered being in a relationship with another person because, honestly, we didn’t think it was a possibility.

This is actually our "second attempt" at a throuple with Daniel. The first time around, external influences—particularly some unsupportive friends—made things difficult. We lost friends over it but also gained incredible new ones along the way.

After a six-year break from that first attempt, we remained close friends. Then came a fateful vacation to the Dominican Republic. Let’s just say the “Mamajuana” was flowing (if you’ve had it, you 'know'). Three guys, an aphrodisiac, and a week-long trip? Well, one thing led to another, and suddenly, all the feelings from the first attempt came rushing back.

Making It Official:

We didn’t immediately jump back into throuple life after the trip. There were "three years" of sneaking around, keeping things quiet, and just enjoying being together. Then one night, in the DJ booth at Flicks, we were talking, took a photo, and Will asked, “Should we just make it official with an Instagram and give it a try?”

Nine years later, here we are.

Looking Back:

Honestly, if you told us nine years ago that this would be our life, we would have laughed. But looking at what we’ve built together—buying a home, growing a business (not 3Dudes1Life), raising two dogs, a turtle, starting a garden, and even adding chickens to the mix—it all feels like the perfect adventure. And in 2024, we did the craziest thing yet: investing in our future by buying acres in Hawaii.

Life has been a wild ride, and we wouldn’t change a thing.

Life Lately: A Whirlwind 11 Days

Whew, where did the time go?! It’s been a whirlwind since our last blog post, and honestly, we can’t believe it’s already been 11 days. But what a week it’s been!

All that worry about kicking off our season with hate or negativity? Did. Not. Happen. Instead, we had our biggest turnout yet, with an incredible number of community members showing up, and—huge moment—OATF received its first proclamation! That alone was worth celebrating, but the entire event felt like a massive win.

On top of all that, we got to spend some quality time with Will’s mom, which is always a highlight. She helps us out with the pups when we travel for fairs, and sometimes she even comes along for the ride. Not gonna lie, it’s a pretty great excuse to squeeze in more mom visits.

And then… it rained! Finally! We got just under 4 inches, and now the first signs of spring are pushing up through the ground. So to everyone freezing in those brutal -20° temps right now—hang in there, spring is on the way!

Looking ahead, we’re diving straight into planning this summer’s locations, putting the final touches on Caleb’s big 4-0 trip, and, of course, tackling yet another house project. Because why would we ever not have one in progress? 😆
