Career Chaos, Chickens, and Corporate Emails — How We Do It All

ree

One of the questions we get constantly — usually asked with either wide-eyed curiosity or straight-up confusion — is:

“Wait… so what do you guys do for work?”

Right after that comes the follow-up: “And you work together, too? How does that not explode?”

Fair. Totally fair (no pun intended lol). Because juggling full-time careers, running businesses, feeding chickens, and somehow still finding time to binge the end of Squid Games together isn’t exactly a standard setup. But somehow, it works. Mostly. With caffeine and spreadsheets. Lots of spreadsheets.

So we’re breaking it down — all three of our careers, how we balance it, and what it’s really like building a business (and a life) as a throuple.

Daniel’s Career

Let’s start with the one who’s been rocking the same company since before TikTok was even a twinkle in someone’s algorithm. Daniel’s been with a national bank for 20 years. (Yes, two-zero. Yes, he looks amazing. No, we don’t know his secret.)

He started in the call center days and worked his way up through the branches to now being in wealth management on the philanthropic/investments side, which sounds fancy because it is fancy. Thanks to the pandemic, he now works from home — which means less commuting and more time with the tortoise, the garden, and getting caught on Zoom with chickens screaming in the background.

And yes — he genuinely, unironically loves spreadsheets. It’s deeply weird. But it makes him happy, and we’re not here to judge (publicly).

Caleb’s Career

Caleb’s out of the house early — like 5 AM wake ups — because he works for one of San Diego’s top land development companies as a drafter. Basically, he’s the guy who figures out what’s going on beneath your feet before they build a Whole Foods or an apartment where your favorite gay bar used to be (RIP that haunted DJ booth at the Flame).

It’s a job full of technical drawing, dirt analysis, and fault line fears (SoCal things), and while it pays the bills, his real love is baking. Like, full Pinterest-board, maple-glazed, frosted-holiday-cookie baking. One day, he’ll get to turn that into a full-time gig (spoiler: we’re already working on it 👀).

Balancing his job with life isn’t easy, especially with that brutal commute, but we’ve all figured out ways to make it work. Mostly by letting him crash on the couch at 8:30 pm and feeding him something covered in sprinkles.

Will’s Career

Will is… well, Will. You know how when you’re doing something so personal and passionate it’s impossible to shut your brain off? That’s him — and Out at the Fair® is his world.

It’s not a 9-to-5. It’s a 9-to-midnight-and-back-at-6 situation. He plans full-scale LGBTQ+ festivals almost single-handedly, and yeah, that comes with more paperwork than one man should legally be allowed to handle. He’s the kind of person who’s replying to emails during brunch, writing ad scripts while folding laundry, and occasionally crying (happy tears!) when the event actually happens and you see what it all meant to someone.

This year’s been rough — hate, venue loss, sponsor ghosts, and all the fun stuff that comes with trying to do something joyful in a world that’s… not always joyful. But we’re adapting, pivoting, and finding new ways to make magic.

Our Joint Career

So how the hell did we end up working together, too?

Simple. OATF started as a passion project. Then it exploded. Suddenly we needed a business to manage it, so we created OutAt Inc. — our queer-owned company where all three of us have a hand in the pot (sometimes literally, if Caleb’s baking).

What we didn’t expect was how far it would take us. Coastlines. County fairs. Lake Tahoe detours. We’ve built memories because of this business. And we’re not done yet. Not even close.

Of course, there are challenges. Working together means learning when to turn it off, which is hard when your boss is also your boyfriend… and so is your co-worker. 2025 made it clear we needed to evolve, so now we are — Will wrote a book (you may have heard 😏), Caleb’s launching C-Dawg’s Snack Shack, and we all love plants so DCW Grows is thriving.

New paths. New brands. Same throuple.

How We Manage Work-Life Balance

We don’t always. Kidding… kinda.

We support each other like a triangle of support scaffolding. Need a ride? Got you. Tech broke? Fixed. Chicken escaped? Daniel’s already on the back with a towel.

Since Will and Daniel both work from home, they spend a ton of time together during the day — from work to water cooler chats with the tortoise. Caleb’s home at night and weekends, and somehow, it just all syncs. No complicated planner apps needed — just knowing when someone needs a snack, a nap, or a hug.

And sure, we have goals — business ones, personal ones, where-we-wanna-live-in-10-years ones. But we also know life’s messy and weird, so we just roll with it. The universe sends chaos, but we’ve got matching cute raincoats.

Final Thoughts

Careers matter. But not more than our dogs, our chickens, or just having a damn good time together.

Jobs will come and go. But what we’re building — this life, this family, this weirdly productive triangle of queerness — that’s forever.

And who knows? Maybe next year we’ll finally leave the 9-5 behind and run this whole show full-time. Or maybe we’ll get a goat. Either way, we’re ready for it.

Are you a throuple balancing jobs and dreams too? Slide into our DMs — we wanna hear it!

Life Update: Cornfields, Cowboy Candy, and a Comeback Pup

Where the heck did July go?! Like seriously — blink once and we’re in August, blink twice and apparently the pumpkins are dead (more on that later). But the biggest headline in our house? Rigsby’s comeback tour is officially underway.

Let’s start there: our sweet old man turned 10 years old in mid-July, and honestly, we’re not sure who got him a new spine, but someone deserves a trophy. He’s trying to walk again — and okay, it’s more of a determined hop — but the effort is everything. He’s giving puppy energy again, and it’s becoming clear he may have been dealing with back pain for years that we never knew about. We’re cautiously hopeful this is his golden era. We’re just keeping his butt far away from any curbs. Period.

Meanwhile, OATF hit the California State Fair, and while Will stayed behind to nurse Rigsby and supervise Zoey’s diva behavior, the rest of the team held it down. Honestly, it was the busiest year yet. And the weather? Only 95 degrees — which is practically fall in Sacramento terms. Now we’ve just got one more stop in 2025 (hi, OC Fair 👋) and then… who knows. We’re proud of what we’ve done, and we’ll never forget the joy of bringing the LGBTQ+ community into spaces that hadn’t seen us in 100 years. But we also can’t lie — the energy lately has been rough. Hate, disrespect, and some seriously backward behavior in the fair world are making us question what comes next. We even got a bonkers email from a partner in Alaska today that made us double-check it wasn’t a prank. It wasn’t.

Back at home, the garden is vibing — with one big asterisk. Our pumpkins? Flop. We didn’t get them started until way after Costa Rica and the cold spring didn’t help. Soooo we yanked ‘em and replanted. They’re back up, and we’re basically hand-feeding them nutrients daily in hopes they produce before Halloween. Elsewhere in the yard: blackberries are done and trimmed, but we’ve got watermelon, tomatoes, peppers, and jalapeños galore. We’ve been holding off picking most of it until Caleb gets the kitchen prepped — because it’s almost time to turn it all into Cowboy Candy. Farm-to-jar-to-you vibes incoming. 🌶️🍉🌽

Also… we officially used the pool for the second time this year! And no, Will floating around like a marshmallow on a pool noodle doesn’t count — this time, we all actually touched the water. Briefly. But still.

And last but definitely not least — we pulled the giant office table back out… which means we’re finally starting that thing people have been telling us to do for years. And no, it’s not OnlyFans. (Sorry, not sorry.)

Stay tuned. We’ve got more chaos (and love) coming your way.

With sunshine, spreadsheets, and garden dirt under our nails —

Will, Caleb & Daniel (DCW) 🌽💛
