Well, this blog is going to be a little different because life has been absolutely wild lately. It’s honestly mind-blowing that it’s only been two weeks since the last one. Life is moving so fast it’s hard to believe that this week is already the Fourth of July! With all the chaos packed into the last 14 days, it feels like we crammed six months of drama into two weeks. So this one’s a full-on life update. Buckle up.

Let’s start with Rigsby. His recovery journey has totally flipped our world upside down, right in the middle of Fair season. He came home the Friday night before the San Diego Fair—which is not just our largest Out at the Fair (OATF) location but also one of our easiest since we’ve been doing it for 13 years. That first night, none of us got much sleep. Daniel and Will split the Fair day to make sure Rigsby wouldn’t be alone too long since he needed to be carried or wheelbarrowed to go outside. Will took the morning shift, made it work, and was out the door by 10:30 AM. Daniel managed to sneak out of the Fair by 2:30 PM to check on him, but surprise Rigsby had Houdini’d his way past the gate and made it all the way to the kitchen where he knocked over Zoey’s water and food bowls. To this day, we have no idea how he pulled that off, but he’s had a camera on him ever since.

The first week of recovery was rough. Rigsby slept a lot and barely ate, but he was still trying to be himself. By Day 8, the swelling started to go down, and we got a couple of amazing surprises: when we pressed on his paws, his toes started to push back slightly, and even better his tail moved! The vets said we wouldn’t see anything like this until our next visit in July, so he’s ahead of schedule. Today marks two weeks since his surgery and his full personality is officially back. His left foot is even starting to push back, which is huge since that was his worst side, and just today while taking him to pee, his tail was wagging! Will legit screamed in excitement. It’s crazy how much these animals mean to us until you’re staring down life without them. And yes, we know people love to comment about how pricey surgery can be, but listen we’re TINKS (Triple Incomes, No Kids) with huge hearts and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

The Fair? Massive success. Our 13th year felt so good. The San Diego Fair always feels like home, and while it’s one of our largest productions, it runs so smoothly that we actually get to enjoy it. The San Diego Sisters even gave our team their angel wings for the positivity and safe spaces we create, what a moment. We’re also running a 40% off summer “survival sale” on merch because honestly, who knows what’s coming in 2026? This country keeps leaning into hate, and it’s exhausting. The mental toll on Will alone this year has been heavy, so for now, we’re just riding the wave and focusing on what we can control. No rest though we’re jumping straight into our next stop at Marin County for the 6th annual celebration and then it’s nonstop through July. Let’s just pray it’s not 109 degrees at CA State Fair and we’ll be good.

Also, the book officially dropped! It was hard to fully celebrate on launch day since it was also Rigsby’s surgery day, but we’ve been celebrating every Kindle page read and every book sold since. Sharing our story through Tres Amigos, Una Vida has been the real reward. And yes we’ve already started outlining Book 2! If you haven’t grabbed the first one yet, snag a signed copy on Etsy and you’ll get a free sticker too.

OMG, how could I almost forget we celebrated TWO birthdays in the last two weeks. Daniel turned 39 and Zoey turned 2! When life feels like the last two weeks have been six months, it’s easy to lose track. Daniel’s birthday was chill because of Rigsby’s recovery, Will made him ribs, and Caleb decorated. Zoey had a great birthday too. Our tradition is a mini cupcake and whipped cream, which turns her into a sugar monster but it’s totally worth it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANIEL!!!

You may have noticed we’ve been busy launching some side hustles too. Sitting around with Rigsby inspired us to finally put action behind some long-time plans. We launched a new IG—@DCWGrows—for our Etsy plant shop. We want to turn it into a one-stop shop for how to grow, when to grow, and sell our plants online. Will’s always dreamed of a big plant business, this could even follow us to Hawaii someday. We also launched —@CDawgs_SnackShack—for Caleb to finally get his food permits and start selling his amazing baked goods and cowboy candy on Etsy. With AI creeping into everyone’s jobs, now feels like the time to go all-in on our dreams. We’ve got even more surprises coming in 2025 but you’ll have to wait for those.

Oh, and the garden is THRIVING. We might not have the biggest space, but the amount of beans we’re pulling is insane. Growing them with the corn this year has been such a win. The beans help the corn by putting nitrogen back into the soil, plus they shade the roots and keep them cool. Pumpkins? We’ve got about 13 so far. We pulled the potatoes and replaced them with carrots, which usually do well for us. The jalapeños and peppers are just kicking into gear, and we’ve already enjoyed a few. Strawberries are slowing down, watermelon vines are spreading, but the blackberries—oh man—Caleb can’t pick them fast enough. We’ve already filled three one-gallon freezer bags and the berries just keep coming.

With everything going on in America and life in general, we're not really celebrating this holiday but we still wish everyone a wonderful weekend and hope you enjoy the time off. Stay safe, keep your plants watered, and keep your dogs close. Happy 4th!
